THE HEADQUARTERS AND THE COLLECTIONS
The Museum of fossils and minerals, housed at the former elementary school of Smerillo, includes a collection of local fossils dating as far back to the Early Pliocene and a didactic exhibition of Italian fossils ranging from Palaeozoic (five hundred and ninety million years ago) to the Neozoic (up to our days). The various collections are arranged in such a way as to allow the visitor to trace the Italian geological history backwards in time starting with the famous trilobite, one of the oldest animals of Italy, until the strombus bubonius of the Puglia region, passing through the precious collection of local fossils.
The mineral section counts among its many pieces an uncut diamond, a quartz Amethyst geode of Brazil of impressive dimension, also a very large sulfur coming from the Perticara quarries and many other really interesting minerals for their shapes, colors and physical properties.
Inside the Museum there is also a laboratory for the cleansing and the cataloguing of fossils. With the microscope it is possible to observe microfossils and botanical compounds. The Museum also houses the Environmental Educational Centre of the Forest of Smerillo, which carries out educational activities aimed at the study and knowledge of the environment from an ecological, geological and botanical point of view.

THE HEADQUARTERS AND THE COLLECTIONS
The Contemporary Art Gallery of Smerillo represents the effort of revaluation, from an artistic point of view, of an area known primarily for its environmental and natural aspects. The collection is based on the presence of 64 artists, mainly from the Marche, some already established and others that are emerging from the new generations. The Art Gallery can be seen as a precious place of learning and culture, besides being a great opportunity of re-launching the cultural activities and also as a form of safeguard and promotion of the artists from our region.
